Pink Pumpkin

Pink Pumpkin

Are you ready for another easy peasy DIY from me? This is another embarrassingly easy DIY. I found this giant pumpkin at Target last year. (I have no doubt it will be back again this year) It’s plastic and it’s basically the same as those trick or treating plastic pumpkin baskets, only GIANT! Let’s get started!

Materials:

  • Plastic pumpkin
  • Spray paint in your favorite color
  • Clear coat
  • Black paint (for the eyes)
  • Paint brush

-First thing you’ll want to do is prepare a work surface. I have grass and didn’t much care if I got paint on it. But it did take a while to grow out. So, do as I say not as I do. LOL

-Clean your pumpkin so that your paint will stick nicely. I used a paper towel with rubbing alcohol.

-After that, basically go to town painting your pumpkin! I used three thin coats and allowed them to dry 10-20 minutes between coats.

-I then went in with black paint and a paintbrush and painted in the mouth, eyes, and nose. I decided to paint the entire thing and then go back because taping it up always leaves me with bleeding paint. I thought this would be cleaner and neater.

-Once your black pain dries, apply a top layer of clear sealer. This step is not necessary but I knew I wanted this to be outside, and to last me a long time. A sealer will help protect against the elements when it’s outside and against dings and scratches when it’s stored away for the next year.
