Faux Gingerbread Castle
Only a few days till Christmas and how many of us are piling up the shipping boxes? Also, how many of us actually eat those gingerbread houses we make? I can honestly say I’ve never ever eaten a single gingerbread house. We make them but lets be real, who wants to eat something everyone’s been touching and licking for hours? Why not make your gingerbread house and use up some of those shipping boxes you have laying around?
I added a little extra magic to my “gingerbread house” by recreating my home castle. We are missing our favorite castle so much this year, and now it’s sitting in the middle of my dining room table. I’ve decided to make my “gingerbread castle” into my centerpiece for the holidays!
To create my castle I used the template from the Disney Parks Blog from their Paper Parks series. Click here for the template!
- Begin by printing out the pages I wanted out of the template and cutting them out. If making a regular gingerbread house, print a basic house template.
- Trace the cut outs onto the cardboard using a white pencil.
- Cut out your shapes using a blade, xacto knife, or scissors .
- Using white paint paint any features and designs you want onto your castle OR house.
- Hot glue your gingerbread house together
- Add candy! I used real candy and hot glued it on.
I will say this was a 5 hour project for me. It will definitely be much shorter and easier if you’re making a classic gingerbread house. I’d love to know if you tried it!
